# Databases

> Create MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL databases for a FeatherPanel server, view credentials, import and export SQL, run queries in the browser and open phpMyAdmin.

Source: https://featherpanel.com/docs/user/servers/databases/

Databases need `database.read`, and creating, editing and deleting need `database.create`, `database.update` and
`database.delete`. Seeing passwords needs `database.view_password`. The number of databases is set by your host.

## Creating a database

Create Database asks for:

| Field | Notes |
| --- | --- |
| Database host | One of the hosts your admin added for this node. See [Database hosts](https://featherpanel.com/docs/admin/databases). |
| Database name | The panel creates the database and a user for it. |
| Remote access | Host pattern the user may connect from. `%` allows any host. |
| Max connections | Concurrent connections for the user. 0 is unlimited. |

## Working with a database

Each database row has:

- **View:** connection details (host, port, type) and login credentials. A warning appears first because it shows
the password; you can skip it in future.
- **Export SQL** and **Import SQL** (upload a `.sql` file or paste SQL, with Continue on errors).
- **Run Query:** run SQL in the browser with Ctrl+Enter and see returned or affected rows.
- **phpMyAdmin**, when your admin installed it and you can view passwords. It signs you in with a one-time token.
- **Delete**, or select several and delete them, or Delete all.

Database dumps made from the Backups page are stored in `/.featherpanel-database-backups` and restored with Import SQL.
See [Backups](https://featherpanel.com/docs/user/servers/backups).

## Frequently asked questions

### Why can I not create a database?

Either the server has a database limit of 0, the limit is reached, or the host has not added a database host for your node.

### What host do I use in my plugin config?

The host and port shown in View Database. Use the remote access pattern % only if something outside the node needs to connect.

### How do I back up a database?

Use Export SQL on the database, or create a Databases backup on the Backups page, which writes .sql dumps to the server.
