Admin area overview

A map of the FeatherPanel admin area, what each sidebar group contains, how admin permissions work, and where each admin guide lives.

On this page

The admin area lives at /admin. The Admin link shows in the main sidebar for users whose role has admin.dashboard.view. Every admin page then checks its own permission node, so you can give a support role the ticket pages without giving it servers or settings. admin.root grants every permission. See Users, roles and permissions and the permission node list.

Pages you lack the permission for are hidden from the sidebar. The Knowledge Base and ticket pages also disappear when the knowledge base or ticket system is turned off in Settings.

Admin Home

The dashboard (“Administration”) shows widgets for infrastructure, service health and panel activity. Customize lets you show or hide widgets, and Clear Cache empties the system cache. A banner appears when an update is available.

If the panel still uses the default featherpanel.mythical.systems address, the dashboard shows “APP_URL Mismatch Detected”. Fix the URL in Settings before you add nodes: it breaks authentication, and Wings and Quilld use it to reach the panel.

First steps on a new panel

  1. Create a location, then a node, and install FeatherWings on it.
  2. Add allocations (IP and port pairs) to the node.
  3. Import or create spells.
  4. Create a server and assign it to a user.

Frequently asked questions

Who can open the admin area?

Anyone whose role has admin.dashboard.view sees the Admin link. Each page inside checks its own permission, and admin.root grants all of them.

Why do I not see Dev Plugins or the Console?

The Developer group only appears when developer mode is on (the app_developer_mode setting) and needs admin.root.
