Virtual machines (VDS)
Manage a FeatherPanel VDS on Proxmox: power and VNC console, access password, IPs and DNS, OS reinstall with cloud-init, ISO mounts, backups and subusers.
On this page
A VDS is a virtual machine or container on your host’s Proxmox cluster. Virtual Machines in the dashboard lists yours, with search, a running-only filter and grid or list view. The host turns the feature on with the VDS module.
Console
The main page shows status, hostname, VMID, type, node, plan, your role and the expiry date.
- Start, Reboot, Stop (needs the
powerpermission). - VNC Console opens the screen of the machine in the browser (
console). - Access Password shows the latest password the panel has, hidden until you click Show. Change it after you sign in.
Networking
Lists the assigned IPs with CIDR, gateway and bridge, and marks the primary one. Extra IPs are added by your host as
extra network interfaces. DNS sets the nameservers and search domain; changing them needs settings.
Settings
| Section | Notes |
|---|---|
| Reinstall Operating System | Pick a template and optionally set a cloud-init username, password and SSH public keys. Wipes all data. The new password is emailed and shown on the console page. Needs reinstall. |
| ISO Mount (QEMU) | Fetch an ISO from a URL or upload one into an ISO storage, then reboot to boot from it. Unmount when done. |
| QEMU Hardware | BIOS or UEFI (OVMF), an EFI disk, TPM 2.0, and an option to drop the serial port so Windows shows graphical output. |
Backups
Create, restore and delete backups up to the limit your host set. Restoring stops the machine and replaces all data
with the backup. Needs backup.
Users and activity
The owner can add subusers by email and give them any of power, console, backup, reinstall, settings and
activity.read. Activities lists power, subuser, console and reinstall events with IP and metadata.
Frequently asked questions
On the VDS console page under Access Password, and in the email sent after creation or a reinstall. Change it after you sign in.
On QEMU machines you can mount an ISO from a URL or an upload, then reboot to boot from it. Otherwise reinstall from one of the templates your host offers.
ISO mounts and the EFI and TPM options only apply to QEMU virtual machines, not LXC containers.
